The ACTFL members who volunteer to serve on these committees devote their time, effort and energy to continuously improving both the organization and the language education profession. We are grateful for their service.

Current Volunteer Opportunities

FINANCE AND AUDIT COMMITTEE

Committee Charge: The Finance & Audit Committee is charged with providing financial oversight for ACTFL.

CONVENTION COMMITTEE

Committee Charge: The Convention Committee ensures that the program content of the annual convention consists of rich, diverse, relevant subject matter. To reach this goal, the committee considers needs assessment surveys and trends in the language teaching community to deliver content in formats that attract a large, diverse audience and provide excellent overall professional development for those attending.

ADVOCACY & OUTREACH COMMITTEE

Committee Charge: The Advocacy & Outreach Committee works to increase members’ interest and ability to educate policymakers and the public about the importance of language education. It also seeks to increase ACTFL’s public profile with relevant stakeholders.

RESEARCH & ASSESSMENT COMMITTEE

Committee Charge: The Research and Assessment Committee helps ensure that proficiency-based language learning processes, practices, and outcomes are grounded in and realized through evidence-based research.

PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMITTEE

Committee Charge: The Professional Learning Committee (PLC) seeks to ensure that ACTFL’s professional learning opportunities are highly valued and made accessible to all language educators across the preK-16 continuum. The PLC seeks to improve the skills of language educators through collaboration, knowledge exchange, and discourse.

TEACHER RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION COMMITTEE

Committee Charge: The Teacher Recruitment and Retention committee provides research-based recommendations to support ACTFL’s initiatives for teacher recruitment and retention, including allocating appropriate resources; exploring, expanding, and diversifying pathways to recruitment; and increasing the impact of existing retention endeavors.

DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION COMMITTEE

Committee Charge: The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee shall consider, advise, and make recommendations to the ACTFL Board that support the organization’s strategic goal of developing and promoting a diverse and inclusive language education community by working to break down barriers to access and opportunity. The DEI Committee will ensure that strategic objectives relating to diversity, equity and inclusion are incorporated into ACTFL’s governance structure, initiatives, awards, and other programs, products, and services.
